Mr Kojo Acquah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) in the Western Region has stated that the Municipality has made arrangements to improve the safety and wellbeing of its citizens during the forthcoming yuletide.
He said there shall be repair and maintenance of streetlights municipal-wide to improve visibility at night, sensitization of communities and markets on the fire emergencies and safety measures, intensification of Police and Military patrols during the day and at night.
He added that there shall be monitoring and enforcement of Ministry of Health protocols against COVID-19, especially, at Christmas functions within the Municipality by the COVID-19 Taskforce Team as part of the measures to improve safety in the Municipality.
Speaking at the Fourth Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Assembly, Mr Acquah announced that the Assembly would be supporting all Security Agencies within the Municipality with the necessary logistics such as fuel, to enable them to serve the security interest of residents within the Municipality.
He noted that accidents on the roads have been tragic year after year during the Christmas season and called on the populace to do everything possible to reduce such occurrences to the nearest minimum.
He indicated that the Kwesimintsim and Effia Police Force have reiterated their determination to enforce the road traffic laws and regulations towards preventing road accidents during the season and called for the support of all and sundry.
“Let us help them in this endeavour by minimizing our speed, taking due precaution for other road users, driving without the influence of alcohol and wearing our seat belts. Just as we have done with the COVID-19 safety protocols, let us also embrace a positive road safety culture that would keep ourselves and our families safe”, he stressed.
Mr John Davis, Presiding Member of EKMA commended the Assembly Members for their hard work, sacrifice and contribution towards the success story of Assembly and urged them to work even harder in the coming year to ensure that success remains the hallmark of the Assembly.
He said it was very important that the Members took stock of their achievements while identifying and working on their shortcomings so as to deepen their decentralization process, ensure the safety of the citizens and facilitate economic development in every way possible.
He further called on the Members not to relent on their effort to keep their families and themselves safe and said security during the festive season must be a matter of concern since theft issues were usually prevalent during such seasons.
