Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has pointed out that the region is poised to strategically position itself to leapfrog other regions to become the most preferred tourism destination in Ghana.
He expressed the resolve of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to solicit support from the private sector in developing the tourist sites in the region like the forts and castles.
He hinted that efforts were being made to secure funds to construct and rehabilitate roads leading to tourist sites in the region to position it to take advantage of the potentials that exist in the region.
Mr Darko-Mensah observed that the region is home to some of the country’s richest culture, beautiful beaches and most importantly, significant history with facilities like Fort Metal Cross, Aketekyi Crocodile Pond, Busua Beach, Nzulezu (village on stilt), Bia National Park and Cape Three Points.
The Minister who was speaking on Skyy Power Fm on his assessment of the activities marking the Christmas celebration in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis deemed the celebration a success and assured that the region would continue to pursue deliberate activities to ensure that the vision of making it number one (1) tourist destination was achieved.
According to him, activities such as the masquerade festivities could be one of the tools to leverage to promote tourism and development in the region adding, “the vision had been to ensure that people visited the region all year-round.”
To his estimation, the people and institutions in the region have proved that the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi and the Western Region at large is the best place to celebrate Christmas and for that matter, there is the need to sustain it whilst improving on it.
