Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Western Region has hinted that as a result of the onset of the dry season and its effects on water production and distribution, it has become necessary to ration water in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis (STMA) and the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality (EKMA) until the raw water supply situation improves.
A statement issued by GWCL said, “Management of Ghana Water Company Limited, Western Region, wishes to inform their valued customers and the general public that as a result of the onset of the dry season and its effects on water production and distribution, it has become necessary to ration water in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis until the raw water supply situation improves.”
Against this background, it has provided customers with a rationing schedule.
Communities to receive water supply on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays are Effiakuma, Effia, Effiakuma Zongo, Bankyease, Sawmill, Lagos Town, Airport Ridge, Kwesimintsim, Dupaul, Apowa, Assakae, Apremdo, New Amanful, Funko, Adwoa, Kajebril, and East and West Tanokrom.
On Wednesdays, the following areas will be supplied with water: Anaji, West Line and West Anaji Residential Area. Only Wednesday has been allotted to these communities because they are connected to the pumping mains which passes through that area and therefore get water when the other communities are being served.
On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the following communities will be served with water: Beach Road, Chapel Hill, Dixcove Hill, Esikafuo Ambantem (1,2&3), Kintampo Road, Cape Coast Road, Port Quarters, Accra Road, Amonoo Road, Bekwai Road, New Takoradi, John Sabbah Road, Tower Reservoir, Sekondi Road, Nkontompo, Poly Area, CDH, New Site, Harbour Area, Windy Ridge, Kokompe, Air Force and Adakope.
Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, Western Regional Communications Manager who shared this in a phone interview with iGOGHANA said due to the onset of the dry season and its effects on water production and distribution, it has become necessary to ration water in the two (2) districts until the raw water supply situation improves.
He announced that following the developing incident, there was the need for the company to provide customers with a rationing timetable through which water will be distributed to customers.
