
Dr Isaac Dasmani, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni-Valley whose capital is Bogoso, has hinted that 17 people so far have died from last yesterday’s explosion in Apeatse.
He indicated that the data so far coming from the office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other rescue parties show the aforementioned number.
The Chief Executive who was speaking in an interview said it was unconfirmed but the reports that were available to him from the various hospitals showed that so far 17 people had died.
Dr Dasmani further disclosed the extent of the damage that the explosion has brought to the Apeatse community was huge in the sense that the entire community had been wiped out.
“The situation is actually unbearable looking at the whole village and it has been ripped off and then there were some dead bodies and a lot of people were injured and buildings have collapsed”, he emphasised.
The huge explosion disaster happened on Thursday, January 20, 2022, when a DAF truck belonging to the Chirano Gold Mines was transporting explosives from Kumasi to a mining site in the area exploded.
An additional fifty-nine (59) people have sustained various degrees of injuries in the explosion while most of the victims have been rescued and admitted to various hospitals and clinics in the region and outside the region.
