Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured residents of the Appiatse community in the Prestea Huni-Valley District in the Western Region of the Government’s commitment to aid them in rebuilding their community.
He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government will build the houses that were destroyed from the tragic explosion yesterday to restore hope to residents of the community.
Dr Bawumia who was speaking during a commiseration visit to the community today said everything will be done to alleviate the suffering of the survivors and members of the community for their loss.
He divulged that the Government was already beginning to think about how to rehabilitate and rebuild the community in ruins and for the houses that have been destroyed.
“I want to assure Nananom that His Excellency, President Akufo-Addo has already given the directive. We have already spoken to the State Housing Corporation and are in consultation with the mining communities here. We will quickly try to put in place facilities that will help those who have been displaced. That will be a priority for us”, he stressed.
In a visit to some of the injured victims of the disaster at Aseda Health Centre at Bogoso, the Vice President said the Government will take care of all the medical bills of persons injured in the explosion.
Among his entourage includes the Minister for Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister, Madam Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, former Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni-Valley, Dr Isaac Dasmani, Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni-Valley and some chiefs and dignitaries.
Meanwhile, an evacuation plan has been activated to move victims who are in critical conditions to medical facilities in Accra, the capital of Ghana for further treatment.
The MCE for the Prestea Huni-Valley, Dr Isaac Dasmani had earlier confirmed that so far 17 persons have died from the explosion while fifty-nine (59) persons were also injured out of the seventy-six (76) rescued so far.
