
Work on the 96.7 kilometres Tema Mpakadan Railway project is nearing completion with contractors for the project announcing the 31st of March 2022 for the substantial completion of the project.
According to the Executive Director (Operations) of AFCONS Infrastructure Limited, the Indian company working on the project, Akhil Gupta, though the project will be completed on the 31st of March substantially, all final finishing touches on the project will be completed by 30th June 2022.
He revealed this in an interview with newsmen when he toured the Afienya project site.
The 96.7 kilometres Tema Mpakadan Railway project which started in July 2017, is almost at its completion stages with 90% of work done.
With almost all 159 railway structures being developed across the country, the apex of the project has to do with the historical 300m rail bridge which is also at its completion stages.
Mr Gupta, after touring some of the project sites to have first-hand information on the level of work progress, expressed satisfaction.
Touching on some key technical aspects of the project which has since been worked on, he expressed the optimism that the project will be substantially completed by 32dt of March with all finishing touches being done by the close of 30th June 2022.
On the world-class Volta Lake rail bridge which is 70% completed with contractors working around to complete the remaining 3 out of 7 guardings that will host the bridge, Mr Gupta, was hopeful the bridge which will connect the rail line from Tema through the Volta Lake to areas such as Kpong, Senchi and Mpakadan, would be completed by 31st of March 2022.
Meanwhile, AFCONs Infrastructure Limited has hinted at their intentions to undertake the Western Corridor Railway Development Project which is expected to begin next year.
The project if completed will link rail lines from Kumasi to Takoradi.
