Enchi is the capital of the Aowin Municipality and the paramountcy of the Aowin Traditional Area in the Western North Region. The Aowin Municipal Assembly is one of the nine (9) districts in the Western North Region, Ghana.
Originally, the Aowin Municipal Assembly was formerly part of the then-larger Aowin-Suaman District in 1988, which was created from the former Aowin-Amenfi District Council, until a small northwest part of the district was split off to create Suaman District on 28 June 2012.
The current leaders include the Paramount Chief, Nana Beyeeman Benbuin III of the Aowin Traditional Area and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) is Mr Samuel Adu Gyamfi while the Member of Parliament (MP) is Mr Oscar Ofori Larbi of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Enchi, with a voter population of over 70,000 and the second best cocoa producing district in Ghana is a safer place, with a serene and favourable environment necessary for business growth and career advancement for both public servants and private sector operators.
Here are eight (8) reasons why people from all walks of life must invest in the Aowin Municipality:
- The Municipality is a mining-rich area
The Aowin Municipality is rich in gold with the presence of mining companies that can attract investment in ancillary services. It has both large scale and artisanal mining. Cape Coast Resources Limited is one of the mining companies undertaking exploration in the Municipality with its parent company Newcore Gold.
Cape Coast Resources have been managing the Aowin Gold project for the past 11 years, and are committed to sustainable practices with a dedicated understanding of the environment, good governance and community relations to add value for its stakeholders and also provide the opportunity to make a lasting impact and achieve sustainable growth.
- The Municipality has tourism potentials
Potential Forest Reserve: Enchi has a vast forest that spans from the town with a variety of trees and animal species that can be turned into a reserve. The forest has a rich history and culture which cannot be separated from their ancestry. The entrance of the forest is a bamboo canopy that leads to the Atua River (Asuo Kramo) believed to be a Moslem. Before the River is a bathroom where chiefs including the Omanhene are bathed with the water from the Atua River during festivals and other traditional celebrations.

The Dosoe Akua’s Shrine and the Dosoe River: The largest river in the district is the Tano whose tributary, the Dosoe River, flows in the middle of Enchi. The shrine, located adjacent to the Oyoko Royal Palace (Omanhene’s Palace) at Anyi, Enchi is where the Dosoe River is fed. The shrine is under a big tall Onyina tree (Ceiba Pentandra- scientific name from the family Bombaceae). There is also the Tano deity at Akutubo (Ankaase/Akutuase literally ‘under the orange tree’) where the Tano River is fed within that stretch of the river.

The Oyoko Royal Palace: This is the Omanhene’s Palace (Seat of the Paramount Chief) located at Anyi in Enchi. The Palace, which is currently under construction sits on an acre of land with a total land size of two (2) acres. The Palace when completed will be second to the Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti Region in terms of its architecture. The Palace is a 3-Storey with an office and a place for the Queen-mother, a barbering shop where chiefs can barber their hair and a souvenir shop where chiefs can purchase ornamentals.
It will have a storeroom for chiefs where they can keep their clothe and ornamentals, a chamber for all the chiefs in the Traditional Area for resting during Council Meetings, two conference rooms, a sporting court with a swimming pool, personal office for the Omanhene, a car park and a Museum showcasing all predecessors and their achievements.
