As part of measures to encourage young people to strive for success in every field, they find themselves, the Wassa East District Assembly seized the opportunity at the 65th Independence Day anniversary to reward and celebrate some young achievers who brought laurels and uplifted the name and image of the district in the areas of sports and education.
In the sports category, Ms Vivian Tertey and Perpetual Mibiahu from Plato in the Enyinabrim Area Council won 1st and 3rd place respectively at the Western Regional inter-district cross country basic school level.
In the Education category, Daboase Senior High Technical School also emerged winners at the Independence Zonal Quiz Competition, beating Shama and Mpohor Senior High Technical Schools.
Again, Solomon Abeka and Samuel Tetteh now at Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) and Adisadel College respectively, were the best students in the 2020 BECE boys category.
They attended Nsadweso D/A and God Is Alive Junior High School (JHS).
In the girls’ category, Ms Philis Ivy Acquah and Perpetual Essuman also emerged as the best students, from God Is Alive and Akyimpim D/A Junior High School, now studying at Wesley Girls and Odupong Senior High School respectively.
They were given a certificate of recognition and an undisclosed amount.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Emmanuel Boakye, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wassa East admonished the youth to emulate the footsteps of the awardees and desist from investing their energies into illegal mining and other immoral acts.
He explained that the only way to add value to their life was to take their education or skills training seriously.
