The Nzema East Municipal Assembly in the Western Region in an operation to clamp down illegal mining activities in the Municipality has arrested three (3) Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian accomplice for operating illegal mining locally known as “galamsey”.
They are Li Hung Zhi, Bao Lin, Qianxi Uuana, Zhang Xia and Kweku Zak a Ghanaian accomplice who are currently in police custody for investigations.
Two (2) pump machines and one (1) Chanfan machine were in their possession and were seized in the course of the operation.
The report says, the Municipal Security Council raided their hideout at Bamianko, a village in the Municipality to execute such exercise.
Briefing the media, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE ) for Nzema East Municipality, Madam Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah warned potential illegal miners within the Municipal to desist from their already failed agenda.
She said the government has made provisions for community mining, and that whoever desires to mine should follow due process by seeking a permit from the authorities.
She indicated that the northern part of the Municipality has been captured with different people from all walks of life with the intention of mining illegally.
“We will not spare anybody who has an interest in destroying our water bodies, such perpetrators will face the law”, she emphasized.
