
Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has assured affected women whose shops were destroyed by fire early this morning at the temporary marketplace in Takoradi in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis (STMA) of the Western Region of reconstructing the place as soon as possible.
The Minister who went to the scene at the time it happened to have first-hand information said they were going to put swift measures in place to begin the reconstruction of the affected area this week to enable the traders to come back to their shops to recover their losses.
He also consoled the women for their losses and said an assessment would be made on the damage caused by the fire while some recommendations would be made by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
Mr James Obeng Junior, Sekondi-Takoradi Metro Coordinator of NADMO in an interview with the igoghna said that the affected apportion of the market will be assessed to find out the extent of damage caused.
He added that the affected area would be closed down to enable them to have thorough investigations into the cause and assessment of the damage.
He also indicated that after the assessment, a recommendation will be made to the Regional Minister for consideration so that affected traders could be compensated for their loss.
Mr Obeng announced that the affected area will be curdled with caution tape to prevent access to it to allow for the evacuation of the debris while the larger part of the market which was not affected will be opened for business.
More than a hundred shops in the early hours of today gutted fire (100) at the temporary marketplace provided by the city authority.
Among the affected shops include wig shops, cloth shops, tailoring shops, hairdressing salons, plastic shops and foodstuff shops.
The fire which started around 12:30 am on Monday, April 4, 2022, spread through the other shops especially, at the part close to the Ahenfie Hotel destroying properties worth sums of money.
Persons whose shops were affected and located close to the section of the market which gutted fire rushed to the scene to salvage some of their wares but to no avail.
