Accra Hearts of Oak made their way through to the ongoing MTN FA Cup Semi-final after defeating Daboase base Skyy FC 0-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium over the weekend.
Skyy FC was playing host to the Capital base Champions of last year, Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium because of the ban imposed on them after beating up team officials of Samatex 96 in their Division One match in Zone Two.
The first half of the game saw little of both teams making any positive incursions to at least score a goal.
However, Accra Hearts of Oak who saw most of the balls came up in the 26th minute when Samuel Inkoom’s corner kick saw Kofi Kodzi’s header pulled over the bar by Skyy FC goalkeeper Solomon Ohene Nimo.
The first half ended in a goalless draw after Referee Charles Bulu’s application of Law 7 of the FIFA rules.
After recess, Coach Samuel Boadu made some changes, bringing in Ansah Frederick, Razak Patrick, Agyenim Boateng, Enock Asubonteng and later on Larry Sumailah to beef up his team’s energy.
Gladson Awako showed up a Luku Modric-like pass in the Champions League game against Chelsea slotted in beautifully by the substitute Patrick Razak in the 67th minute, beating goalkeeper Solomon Ohene Nimo into the net giving the Champions the lead.
Abdul Malik, Coach of Skyy FC made some quick changes with the likes of Martin Owusu, Masaya Nafiu, Sarpong and Acquah all coming in to lift up their game in the last 15th minute into the second half yet that could not materialise to yield the necessary results needed hence bowing out of the MTN FA cup this Season at the Semi-final stage.
Skyy FC belongs to the Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee Chairman and is a former DCE for Wassa East in the Western Region. He’s also the owner of Skyy Media Group, Mr Wilson Arthur.
Defender Ebenezer Acquach of Skyy FC was adjudged Man of the Match performance.
Meanwhile, Accra Hearts of Oak has joined Aduana Stars, Bechem United and Dreams FC in the quarter-final stage which will be played from 12th – 16th May this year.
Aduana will face off with Bechem United in the Northern Sector while Dreams FC locks horns with Accra Hearts of Oak in the Southern Sector to book their place in the final to be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
