Following the decision of Charles Onuawonto Cromwell Bissue, current Western Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), four leading members of the party in the Western Region have stepped out to battle for his position.
They are Emmanuel Acquah, Senior Lecturer at Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Okatakyie Amankwah Afrifa, Western Regional Head of National Service Secretariat, Rex Jonfia, current Deputy Western Regional Secretary of NPP, and Charles Cobbina, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC).
The four personalities, have all served the party in various capacities and contributed significantly to its development in Western Region and therefore are more than qualified to take up the new challenge.
Interestingly, the delegates of the party say, they would have the option of voting for just one out of the four personalities as the Scribe of the party in the Western Region.
Speaking in an interview ahead of the elections on Saturday, delegates of the party in the region concluded that they would not gamble with their votes on Saturday, but would elect an effective and competent person to do the work.
“We are wide awake. Our votes are not for sale. We all know what Charles Cobbina, aka Kempes has done, therefore, we are all going out in our numbers to vote for him.
Kempes is the only grassroots person who has stayed with the party through thick and thin, and we must appreciate this effort, Kwasi Addae, one of the delegates said.
“He has contested several positions, from the polling station, parliamentary primaries, and Regional elections, and therefore understands the dynamics of the administration of party affairs. We would not make any mistake, we would settle on him to deliver results”, they pointed out in separate interviews.
Whilst the delegates of the NPP have reposed their confidence in the leadership and competence of Charles Cobbina, they cautioned against disunity after the polls.
“We all know that Kempes is winning and so we want to urge the other contestants to stand by him after the polls so that we can go into the 2024 general elections as a united party.”
“Just as the party has settled on Ndede Nsiah to go unopposed in the Regional Chairmanship contest, the Regional Secretary position has also been decided. We are all voting for Kempes.”
Whereas the other three aspiring Regional Secretaries can only boast of working in the party in Western Region, Charles Cobbina has worked in the region and at the national level to drive the national campaign of prominent figures.
He has also served in various committees at the regional and national levels.
In civil society, the man Kempes has been phenomenal with activism and has touched many lives with impactful programs and projects.
His impeccable record in galvanizing the energies of young people has endeared him to the delegates and leadership of the party.
They emphasized his loyalty and commitment to the growth and development of the party.
