
A Disease Control Officer of the Mfantseman Municipal Health Directorate, Mr Danso Dominic has revealed that the Central region has recorded the first confirmed cases of the deadly monkeypox virus.
Mr Danso, however, disclosed to Atinka News that, the first confirmed case was recorded in the Mfantseman Municipality.
He said Monkeypox is caused by a virus, a member of the same family of viruses as smallpox, adding that symptoms often include fever and rash, but the infection is usually mild.
He added that the mode of transmission was the same as COVID-19, and further called on the residents that all safety protocols of the COVID-19 virus must be ensured with immediate effect across the region.
Mr Danso Dominic also disclosed that the victim is under treatment while 34 contact tracing has been identified as of August 4, 2022.
He urged the public to exercise restraint as health professionals are investigating to unravel any mystery regarding the virus.
He called on residents to stop self-medication and should regularly visit the hospital for proper examination and medication.
This also means that the people in the Western Region, in particular, Takoradi must be on their guard to make sure that the disease does not escalate.
The Regional Health Directorate must, therefore, put proactive and stringent measures to curtail the situation before it spreads.
