The Electricity of Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited has announced that due to some technical challenges, purchasing of electricity credit by customers on the Ecash and PNS metering systems has been interrupted.
Against this backdrop, ECG has assured affected customers that the engineers of the company were working assiduously to correct the anomaly and restore the system to normalcy.
Mr Benjamin Quarcoo, Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of ECG said, “We are aware of the inconveniences created for a section of our prepaid metering customers as a result of network challenges associated with vending services.”
He mentioned the affected areas as Takoradi in the Western Region, Volta Region, Tema in the Greater Accra Region, Cape Coast, Winneba, Kasoa and Swedru in the Central Region and Koforidua, Tafo and Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
He reiterated that the technicians were on the field putting measures in place to ensure that the situation was brought under control in the shortest possible time.
The Public Relations Officer, therefore, apologized on behalf of the company and said every inconvenience caused by the technical challenge was deeply regretted.
He also announced that the ECG’s attention has been drawn to fraudsters who call unsuspecting existing and prospective customers in the name of ECG to make payments to certain MoMo accounts to access the ECG services.
He stated categorically that the company will not demand payments for services through MoMo apart from customers who personally initiate transactions through the ECG Power App (Mobile app with short code *226#).
Mr Quarcoo cautioned customers and the general public to make payments for all ECG related-transactions to the cashiers of the company at its district offices or customer service centers and obtain receipts accordingly.
He further urged the customers and the public to beware of the activities of the fraudsters and report such incidents to the security agencies or the nearest ECG office to assist the ECG to track and bring them to book.
