Captain Ebenezer Kojo Afedzi, outgoing Director of the Takoradi Port, has hinted that the Port is now profitable due to the introduction and growth of the oil and gas section.
He was happy to state that the Port has grown significantly and is now ready to compete with other ports in the West African Sub-Region.
“Today, in 2023, I can confidently state that with the help of all 749 permanent employees and 321 contract employees, we are raking in some good profits not only from oil and gas but from all operations. Anyone who wishes to double-check the facts and figures can do so”, he stressed.
Captain Afedzi gave the hint at a retirement ceremony organized by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Takoradi for him as he retires as the Director of the Takoradi Port.

However, he said while the Port was making some profits, there are numerous debts to be paid as a result of the innumerable expansion projects currently going on in the Port.
He announced that he took over as the Director of the Port in 2015 when the Port had a staff of 830 which has now grown to one-thousand and seventy (1,070).
He indicated that the Automated Dry Bulk Terminal Project, the new Liquid Bulk Terminal Project, the ATS Container, and the Multipurpose Terminal Project were all completed during his tenure.
“We also finished the GPHA Takoradi Hospital Children’s Ward and laboratory blocks project, as well as sod-cutting for the ongoing oil and gas terminal, Prime Meridian Dock, Floating Dock, and ultra-modern hospital diagnostic center projects,” he announced.
Captain Ebenezer Kojo Afadzi, now sixty years old, has been the Port Director for the last eight (8) years.
Before his appointment as the Director of the Takoradi Port, he worked as a Harbour Master from 2013 until assuming the high position.

On his part, Mr Peter Amoo-Bediako who took over as the new Director of the Takoradi Port, stated with confidence his resolution to lead the entire staff to carry on the good work of his predecessor.
“I want to assure everyone here, that we will carry on the good works of my predecessor and expand the Port’s frontiers by adhering to the hardworking values and truth instilled in us,” he emphasized.
